OWC announces PCIe SSD solution for 2011 with up to 3.2TB at 4GB/sec speeds
Other World Computing (OWC) has posted notes on its forthcoming PCIe solid state drive (SSD) card.
It’s got me drooling; in one slot of my Mac Pro:
- 8X and 16X PCIe interface;
- Up to 8 onboard SSDs using the latest Sandforce controller;
- Onboard RAID controller;
- Read speeds up to 4GB/sec (that’s ~30 times the speed of a fast hard drive!);
- Capacity up to 3.2TB (hold onto your wallet!);
- Up to 480K IIOPS;
- 28% over-provisioning for enterprise-grade reliability;
Best of all, it takes up only one PCIe slot, which means all the other bays can be used for large hard drives for extra storage and/or internal redundant backup.
Of course, those who truly need shock and awe could always install more than one PCIe card.
The bad news? It’s not going to be cheap, and it’s not out until 2011.
